The Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) has awarded us a grant of €48,780.90, 60% funded by the European Union under the ERDF Programme of the Valencian Community 2021-2027, for the project entitled “RESEARCH INTO HIGH-STRENGTH TECHNICAL YARNS”, under file number IMIDTA/2025/114, submitted to the SME R&D Programme (PIDI-CV) 2025.
The main objective of the project has been to research and develop an innovative manufacturing process for a new range of high-performance yarns intended for the technical textiles sector. These yarns have been manufactured using conventional spinning (ring spinning), combining ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibres and acrylic fibres. This development has resulted in yarns with excellent mechanical performance, characterised by high strength, light weight and flexibility, qualities that are particularly in demand in high value-added technical applications.
The project forms part of the company’s innovation strategy, aimed at expanding our range of technical yarns and improving the performance of existing products. It also promotes the introduction of new raw materials and manufacturing processes that contribute to the technological advancement of the textile industry.
From a technical perspective, the initiative has enabled us to optimise the conventional spinning process to produce yarns with high regularity and strength. During the project, several challenges associated with the use of UHMWPE fibres were addressed, including their high stiffness, low cohesion with other fibres and tendency to generate static electricity through friction. To overcome these limitations, operating conditions and spinning machine mechanisms were adapted. In addition, auxiliary fibres such as acrylic were selected to improve yarn cohesion and facilitate the production of a final product with the required technical properties.
Through this project, we strengthen our capacity for innovation and consolidate our position in the development of high-performance textile solutions, responding to the growing needs of sectors that demand increasingly strong, lightweight and efficient materials.
